How to choose
The right fixture is less about brightness and more about layers, warmth and proportion. Here’s a simple way to think about each type — and how to place it well.
For ambience and architecture. Sconces frame mirrors, art and hallways with a soft, space-saving glow — ideal where a surface or floor isn’t available.

Shown: Celestine Alabaster Oblong Wall SconceA slim vertical sconce adds warm, diffused light above a console or beside a mirror.
For surface-level warmth. Perfect on consoles, shelves and bedsides, they bring light down to eye level where a room feels most intimate.

For height and layering. A floor lamp fills the vertical gap beside seating and reading corners, adding a second or third layer of light to a room.

For focal points. Hung over a table or island, a pendant anchors the room and does the visual work before it’s even switched on.

Choose warm-toned light for living spaces. It flatters materials and skin, and turns a functional room into a calm, inviting one after dark.
Match the fixture to the surface and wall around it — a pendant roughly centred over a table, a sconce sized to the wall, a lamp that suits the console.
Aim for two or three sources at different heights — overhead, mid and surface — rather than one bright ceiling light. Layers create depth and mood.
